DJ SBU REJOINS YFM

The charismatic Sibusiso Leope, famously known as DJ Sbu, is officially back on the YFM airwaves - this after speculation, denials and even a podcast stating that DJ Sbu will not be joining YFM or any radio station but was exploring other opportunities off air since he left SABC's Ukhozi FM in March 2008.

On Monday morning, 5 May, Sbu’s husky voice reverberated through the airwaves as he officially announced his return to the beleaguered Gauteng youth radio station. After advertising his return the entire weekend preceding his return, the YFM bosses must be rejoicing that he took the mic in his trademark confident kasi-swagger style of his. The Tembisa born radio/tv/music personality excitedly welcomed listeners to “Unfinished Business”, a breakfast show which he claims will make history.

The debut show featured a tribute to Fana “Khabzela” Khaba, the late iconic YFM DJ who inspired Sbu and many other Gautengers. The show embarked on a campaign to raise funds for the unveiling of Khabzela’s tombstone. In addition to that, Sbu also took listeners on a trip down memory lane, playing unforgettable old-school hits.

From what I heard Sbu has lost none of that radio charm that gained him millions of followers; his return might just be the saving grace for a radio station that has been accused of losing touch with its target market.
