'BIG FELLAS' HITTING A CINEMA NEAR YOU

I have been noticing a fresh new revolution that is rejuvenating the often staid Mzansi film industry. Entertaining flicks such as Footskating 101, U-Carmen eKhayelitsha, Conversations on a Sunday Afternoon and Bunny Chow are propelling a new movement that is seeing brave individuals making powerful, bold, irreverent or simply humorous flicks that resonate with the South African public.

As much as this is an exciting development, it must be noted that the only thing that can sustain this growth is if you, the movie-watching person, can continue supporting these films that are a reflection of our exciting and evolving cultural identity.

One of the flicks that you definitely need to show some love to is the upcoming Big Fellas. Written and produced by Ross Garland and directed by Philip Roberts, the hilarious flick follows the journey of two young guys, Zed and Jake, who have made a documentary expose about the modelling industry, as they go on a road trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg to close a deal to sell their film.

One problem - they need a BEE partner, and they need one fast. On the trip the boys are continually sidetracked, by their nemesis Ray and his femme fatale assistant Lola, Karoo serial killers, supermodels, mannequins, Gatberg darts champions and the curiously named Ronnie’s Sex Shop…but still no BEE partner in sight

When the boys arrive in Jozi, their dreams come true, and they find a partner where they least expect it.

The flick which will be screening at a cinema near you from 23 November 2007, features the talents of local cats such as Colin Moss, Kagiso Lediga, Cokey Falkow, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Marc Lottering, just to name a few.

Also look out for the accompanying soundtrack, which features our boy Lungelo on 4 tracks including the title track "Big Fellas".
